What Is TDEE?
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) is the total number of calories you burn in a 24-hour period. It is composed of four main components:
- BMR: Your Basal Metabolic Rate (calories burned at rest).
- TEF: Thermic Effect of Food (calories burned digesting food).
- EAT: Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (calories burned during formal exercise).
- NEAT: Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (calories burned during daily movement like walking or fidgeting).
How to Use Your TDEE
Once you know your maintenance calories, you can adjust your intake based on your goal:
- Weight Loss: Consume 250-500 calories *less* than your TDEE.
- Muscle Gain: Consume 250-500 calories *more* than your TDEE.
- Maintenance: Consume exactly your TDEE.
